What do we do?

Founded in Lebanon in 1975, for almost five decades, MEM has been using media in strategic and culturally-relevant ways to share the love of God in some of the most challenging areas of the Middle East. We are producers of indigenous Christian media content that, as God enables, helps move people towards life-transforming faith in Jesus Christ.

Beginning with printed media in 1970s, we released the first Christian magazine in the Middle East which became a regional bestseller. As times and technologies have evolved, we moved into satellite television, in 1993 founding the first Christian channel in the Arabic world, SAT-7, which is now a separate, thriving entity. Today, through a vast array of video productions, social media and digital initiatives, our highly-experienced teams in the Gulf and North Africa persevere in demonstrating the love of God to those from all backgrounds and all stages of life. From serving refugee women through media and art therapy workshops, to the creation of high-quality children’s animations with a biblical message, to supporting Arabic-speaking parents through Facebook – our goal is to fill the gaps in media ministry so that more and more individuals, families and communities are reached with the hope of Jesus Christ.

Our years of experience in the region as shown us how much more effective media is when it is created by those from the specific target audience. Our teams in the region consist of local believers who understand the culture in which they work. Additionally, our teams holistically empower other content creators, particularly in countries where it is most challenging to be Christian. We are committed to walking alongside believers across the region as they use the powerful impact and reach of creative media. We disciple them to take their next step into the likeness of Jesus Christ, as well as help them to develop their indigenous media ministry, so that they too can reach the unreached in their own communities.

How do we do it?

Our widespread ministry can be channelled into three main categories:

Production: Our highly trained and experienced teams of local believers, based in the Gulf and North Africa, produce a wide range of top-quality films, animations, video clips, dramas and documentaries, as well as digital and social media content, that display the love, hope and light of Christ. Our productions are culturally-relevant and audience-specific, so that they are accessible to those from all backgrounds in the region.

Distribution: Through our many partner organisations working in the region, our productions are distributed widely across digital platforms, as well as delivered on-the-ground to numerous marginalised groups, including trafficked, oppressed and divorced women, refugee and orphaned children, and men and women struggling with their mental health.

Training: We mobilise indigenous believers to harness the power of creative media so that they can reach those from their backgrounds in the most appropriate and effective ways. We provide practical training in media skills, as well as holistic support on their journeys of faith and the establishment of sustainable media ministry teams.

Our EU and USA teams exist solely to raise support for the work of our North Africa and Gulf teams. MEM staff in the region include scriptwriters, filmmakers, animators, web specialists, directors, editors, marketers, counsellors, theology specialists and more.

Why do we do it?

We believe in the life-transforming power and love of Jesus Christ and the strategic, innovative use of creative media as a tool for sharing it, particularly in places where it is challenging to do so in other ways. We believe in the relevance of the Gospel in every aspect of people’s lives – the spiritual, psychological, social and physical. We want to see lives transformed through faith in Him as we seek to go where others haven’t gone; to bring light to even the darkest of situations; and to reflect unstoppable hope.

Where do we work?

We physically work within the Middle East and North Africa with our staff teams located in both North Africa and the Gulf. However, the beauty of media is that our resources reach Arabic-speaking people throughout the world.
